CARACAS (click to go to the bio!)

An explosive musical experiment that smashes together Punk rock, Ska beats, Jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, tons of Latin mojo and a kickass live show.

Caracas shoots music video!

We spent a number of weekends with film director Shaun Walford from production outfit Shot by a Ninja, shooting the awesome music video for our upcoming re-vamped version of "Bring on the Playtime" (available in our upcoming 4 song EP of the same name). We spared no punches and this video has it all - from street shots to beach parties, from high def RED cameras to drone aerial shots! We seriously can't wait until its all done and ready to share with you!

Video screening party date and awesome supporting bands TBA soon!

Here are some preview pics so you can share our excitement! :D

Caracas in the recording studio!

We are in the process of recording our new EP under the expert guidance of South African producer/engineer Dylan Ellis (Hokum, Rami Lakkis, etc). It will take a few weeks to record 4 songs: "Bring on the Playtime", "Fairy Dust Mofo", "Running" and "Pond of Dreams".

Although these are titles we've recorded in the past, don't be fooled - you've never heard them played this way before! Thanks to our new family members Heather (trumpet), Enmanuel (drums) and Luis (bass), we have finally achieved the way the songs were always meant to sound like -- big enough to blast through any festival sound system! :D

We're very excited for what we will share with you in the coming year..and beyond!

Caracas shoots their third photo-shoot!

On an early Sunday morning in April, stellar photographer Paul Joseph (, stylist extraordinaire Ana Jost (Official Facebook page) and superb makeup/hair artist Merrissa Vogan, met us at the East Van Studios to shoot the band's new awesome promo shots!

Here's a behind the scenes video of how it all went down! (The soundtrack is our song "Pond of Dreams" live at the Jarabe de Palo show at the Rickshaw Theater!)

What a show at the Rickshaw!

The Jarabe de Palo / Los Furios / Caracas show at the epic Rickshaw Theater was one for posterity! The sold-out venue packed almost 650 dancing and singing fans under one roof, everyone bringing their best face to see Pau Dones and his band Jarabe de Palo play for the first time in Vancouver, as part of their massive "Tour Americano 2015". We also celebrated the 15th Anniversary of long-running CiTR 101.9FM music and variety show "The Morning After Show", hosted by the excellent (and very busy!) Oswaldo Perez, who has been also throwing shows across the mainland featuring local talent and Latin imports, such as La Gusana Ciega, Mama Pulpa, and now, Jarabe de Palo! Many thanks to all the sponsors and supporting organizers, including Acsenda School and VanMusic, who have supported Caracas since the beginning!

Caracas played a tight 30 minute set, getting the crowd warmed up and excited! We got them to sing along to "Dale a Tu Bongo", entertained them with our Venezuelan rhythms and Cuatro strumming, and left them primed for our follow-up, the awesome ska-punk rockers Los Furios!

We have some videos to share with you all soon! Thanks for all your support, if you were there, or there in spirit!
Keep on keeping on!
Javier, Victor, Luis, Enmanuel and Heather!

Upcoming Shows

Caracas, Mngwa and Mellomanic at the Railway!

Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir, Vancouver

Saturday, September 12th IMU presents CARACAS, MNGWA & MELLOMANIC @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Show 9:30pm / $10 cover

CARACAS - Formed in East Van by Venezuelan brothers Javier and Victor Badillo, Caracas is defined by upbeat, melodic, syncopated Latin-influenced original punk rock with a penchant for genre crossovers. Compared to bands like The Stranglers, Pixies, Talking Heads and White Stripes, the Badillos previously played in seminal Malaysian punk rock band LyMe, learning from and influencing a generation of Malaysian DIY punks.

MNGWA - A 9-piece collective of Russians, Mexicans and Canadians with vocals in four languages, Mngwa injects the local music scene with a fresh global perspective, mixing elements of Latin, cumbia, dub, funk, reggae and African rhythms. They've earned a reputation as a juggernaut party band, hosting underground shows featuring video projections, costumes, puppets, live artwork and a colourful entourage of weirdos.

MELLOMANIC plays a mix of rock, folk, reggae and funk with soulful, interweaving vocals and dynamic, original songs. A group of friends who've been playing music together for ten years, they have a collective passion for music and a collaborative approach to songwriting, resulting in carefully crafted songs that touch on the common themes of our lives.
