CARACAS is a new band by brothers Javier and Victor Badillo. Mix some 80′s and 90s South American Spanish rock, Southeast Asian metal and hardcore punk, and North American punk and folk – with a pinch of Flamenco guitars and Venezuelan Waltzes, and you’ll know where CARACAS’s music is coming from.
In the late 90s Javier and Victor joined forces with Azman Ali (Bass) and Moez Khan (Drums) to create the seminal Malaysian punk band LyMe (http://myspace.com/lymemusic). After recording an album, several compilations and collaborations, touring the region and becoming one of the South East Asia’s leading DIY punk bands, the band members went separate ways to pursue other goals.
Fast forward a few years, Javier and Victor moved to Canada, where Javier joined Marian Brlecic (Vocals/Guitar), Eric Lu (Bass), Jon Arason (Drums), Jessica Deutch (Violin) and Allan Haley (Mandolin) in the popular Gypsy/Latin fusion group Kola Collective (http://www.kolacollective.com), recording an album and playing in some of Vancouver’s most popular events, including the International Jazz Festival and the Vancouver Car Free Day.
CARACAS is the Badillo brother’s latest project. With the Summer of 2011 starting off with a slate of new shows, the band has long term plans to tour, record and play in the places that saw them grow.
